The Race Face Next R Crankset boasts carbon construction like the Next SL G4, but adds more carbon, so heavier riders, enduro fiends, and all mountain devotees can get in on a lightweight crankset that can take a bashing and come away looking good. The result is a 495g crank when a 32-tooth direct mount ring is installed; pretty light, and, while you can’t tell from the pictures, on the trail, it is super stiff.
As 1x’s are everywhere, most people will want to pair this crank with a direct mount ring. They are available in two-tooth increments from 24-42 teeth. You can also get a 104/64mm 2x and a Boost option is available as well, and a 120/80mm spider. All options are sold separately. All utilize Cinch, which is a spline on the inside of the right crankarm that is secured via a lock ring. You’ll need a specific lock ring tool from Race Face or Park to install the ring or spider.
The crankset comes with a 30mm diameter, 134mm width spindle, which is sent attached to the left arm. The inside of the arm also has a pre-load adjusting collar. You can get 170 or 190mm spindles separately, or a Cinch power meter spindle.
You’ll also need to source a bottom bracket. You’ll need a bottom bracket or bearings that fit your standard. This spindle/crank setup works with BSA 68/73mm, BB89.5/92, PF30 68/73mm, 392 EVO, BSA 83mm, BB 107/104.5, PF30 83mm, BSA 100, BB124/121.5, PF30 100mm, BSA 120mm, BB144/141.5, and PF30 120mm.
The Race Face Next R Crank comes in two lengths, 170 and 175mm. It comes with pedal washers, pedal boots, installation instructions, and a sticker. You’ll need a few specialized tools including: the lock ring tool (Park’s BBT-22 or Cinch from RF), 16mm hex key, soft mallet, and torque wrench.
