As we've said before, XT hits that magical place between performance and price, and this Shimano XT FC-M780 Crankset is no exception. It's a Dyna-Sys triple crankset and is 10-speed specific. This is the one you want if you desire the ultimate range of gears. Use it with the XT M771 11/36t cassette to have a stump-pulling low gear to get up and over the steepest pitches on your favorite trails.
Like its M770 predecessor, the aluminum M780 crank is a Hollowtech II design. This ensures strength, stiffness, and light weight. The hollow steel 24mm spindle will fit easily into any bottom bracket shell configuration, and these days that is a big plus. Installation is easy, and perfect bearing preload is easy to achieve. Once set, the two pinch bolts on the left-side crankarm clamp it all in place for security. There's not a simpler or more effective system on the market.
The chain ring shaping is optimized for use with Shimano's HG-X 10-speed chain. The combo of revised notch and pin placement along with the asymmetrical shaping of the chain makes the front shifting better than ever. One big change for M780 is the carbon-steel composite middle chain ring. The carbon stiffens up the ring, increasing durability and improving shifting at the same time.
The Shimano XT FC-M780 Crankset has 42/32/24 triple chain rings set on a 104/64mm bolt circle diameter. It's available in 165-180mm lengths in 5mm increments. An English threaded bottom bracket is included.
